What the Book Studio does
The Studio composes a complete, print-ready puzzle book interior for Amazon KDP: mixed puzzle types, per-section difficulty (or a book-wide easy → hard ramp), continuous numbering, front matter, and a packed solutions section — at every standard KDP trim size.
The pages in the centre panel are rendered from the same interior the PDF compiler produces, so what you page through is what prints. Every puzzle is generated from a seed, which means locking a puzzle, saving your book, and re-opening it next month all give you back exactly the same pages.
It now finishes the whole book: the Cover Studio designs the full-wrap paperback cover and the ebook cover from the same page count, with starter covers, a free background library, drag-to-move editing and AI artwork, all in beta. The step-by-step tutorial below walks through it.
How to build and cover a KDP puzzle book here, step by step Beta
Seven steps from a blank page to an upload-ready interior, cover and listing. The cover designer and AI features are in beta, so please tell us what breaks.
1. Pick a template or describe your book to the AI. BetaStart from one of the 37 book templates, which fill in the interior and an almost-finished, editable cover. Or write one paragraph about the book you want and let the AI plan it for 1 credit.
2. Build the outline and check the real pages. Draft the outline, then read the real printed pages on screen. Edit any single puzzle, its words, page title and difficulty, before anything is built.
3. Build the full interior PDF. Build the complete interior: up to 120 puzzles across 18 puzzle types, with continuous numbering, a packed answer-key section and KDP-compliant margins for the page count.
4. Switch to Cover and choose a starting point. BetaOpen the Cover tab. Pick a starter cover or one of 20 cover styles, then add one of 35 free royalty-free backgrounds, your own picture or AI artwork (10 credits, or 20 for premium 4K artwork or restyling your own photo). The spine is sized from your real page count.
5. Drag the title, badge and picture where you want them. BetaClick the title, author, badge, picture or back-cover text on the preview and drag it. Arrow keys nudge, double-click edits the words, and pictures zoom and pan. Cover text is typeset, never painted, so it is always spelled right.
6. Read the cover check and download the covers. BetaThe cover check warns about anything KDP would reject, including a zoomed picture that drops under 300 DPI. Then download the full-wrap paperback cover PDF at the exact KDP size, the 1600×2560 ebook cover JPG and a proof JPG. The preview is the same file the printer receives.
7. Download the listing pack and upload to KDP. BetaDownload the listing pack (title, subtitle, 7 keywords, categories and description; the AI can write it for 1 credit). Upload the interior and cover to KDP and tick the AI-content box if you used AI for images or text. The Studio reminds you which applies.

Does the Book Studio design the cover as well as the interior? Beta
Yes, in beta. The Cover Studio produces a full-wrap paperback cover PDF at the exact KDP size, with the spine sized from your real page count and the bleed, safe areas and barcode zone kept clear, plus a 1600×2560 ebook cover JPG and a proof JPG. Choose from 20 cover styles, 35 free backgrounds or a starter cover on any of the 37 templates, then drag the title, badge and picture where you want them.
What are AI credits and what do they cost? Beta
Publisher includes 150 AI credits a month and Pro includes 400; the allowance resets on the 1st. Text tasks cost 1 credit: plan a book from one paragraph, fill a section with themed word lists or quotes, write the back cover, an artwork prompt or the KDP listing. Standard cover artwork costs 10 credits; premium 4K artwork or restyling your own photo costs 20 and is a Pro feature, with 2 a month on Publisher to try it. A failed generation is refunded automatically. Top-ups are 150 credits for $5.99, 500 for $12.99 and 1,000 for $24.99, and purchased credits never expire.
Can I sell a book that uses the free backgrounds or AI artwork? Beta
Yes. The 35 free backgrounds are drawn in-house by PuzzlePage and are royalty-free for commercial use, including Amazon KDP covers, with no licence and no attribution. AI-generated artwork and text from the Studio are covered by the same commercial licence. KDP asks you to disclose AI-generated images and text at upload, and the Studio reminds you which applies.
