What Is Star Battle?

Star battle is a grid logic puzzle divided into irregularly-shaped regions. You must place exactly one star in every row, every column, and every region — with the added rule that no two stars may touch, not even diagonally. There’s no arithmetic involved, just careful spatial deduction, which makes it a favorite among competitive logic-puzzle solvers.

How to Solve a Star Battle Puzzle

  1. Look for small regions. A region that spans only one or two rows/columns often forces a star’s position immediately.
  2. Mark cells around placed stars as blocked — a star rules out all 8 surrounding cells for any other star.
  3. Track rows, columns, and regions that already have their star; eliminate every other cell in that line or region.
  4. Repeat until every row, column, and region has exactly one star.

Who Uses Our Star Battle Generator?

Teachers use it to build spatial-reasoning practice without arithmetic; Amazon KDP publishers use it for logic-puzzle activity books in an under-served niche; and logic-puzzle fans use it as a quick daily brain teaser. Prefer to play on screen first? Try the interactive star battle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the rules of star battle?

Place exactly one star in every row, column, and marked region, so that no two stars are adjacent — including diagonally.

Do the puzzles always have one solution?

Yes. Every star battle grid is verified by an independent solver that counts valid star placements, keeping only puzzles with exactly one solution.

What sizes are available?

Three sizes: 6×6 (Easy), 8×8 (Medium), and 10×10 (Hard), each with one star per row, column, and region.

Can I use star battle puzzles for Amazon KDP?

Yes. Star battle is a fast-growing logic-puzzle niche with little competition. The generator exports clean, commercial-use PDFs at KDP-ready paper sizes. Free PDFs carry a small “Made with PuzzlePage.app” credit line; a watermark-free export is included with Premium ($2.99 day pass or $6.99/month).
