Students never sign in, never type their details, and are never tracked or advertised to. The only student data we can hold is a class list a teacher saves themselves, and that is encrypted, private to that teacher, and erased when they delete the class. Here are the answers to the COPPA and FERPA questions districts ask.
No student accounts
Students never sign up, sign in, or enter a name, email, or any identifier. Live games join by class code; streaks live only in the browser's own storage on that device.
One thing is stored, and only if you save it
PuzzlePage holds no grades and no behavioral profiles. The one exception: if a teacher saves a class list in the Answer Sheet Studio, those student names and IDs are stored encrypted, readable only by that teacher's account, and erased when the class is deleted.

COPPA governs collecting personal information from children; PuzzlePage collects none from students directly. FERPA governs education records; the only record we can hold is a teacher-entered class list, encrypted at rest and deletable by the teacher at any time.

Plans for schools and departments
Everything above stays free for any teacher who wants it. A school plan is for when you want a department covered on one invoice, with no card and no thirty separate sign-ups. Each teacher on the plan gets the classroom makers for a year: class packs with names already printed, student ID grids, shuffled versions with their own keys, Word export, and clean PDFs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is PuzzlePage COPPA compliant?
PuzzlePage's student-facing experience collects no personal information from children: no accounts, no names, no emails, no persistent identifiers used for tracking. COPPA obligations attach to collecting children's data; our architecture avoids the collection entirely. Email features (the daily digest, live-game hosting, bulk downloads) are directed at and used only by adults: teachers, parents, and publishers.
Is PuzzlePage FERPA compliant?
FERPA protects student education records held by schools and their vendors. PuzzlePage has no SSO, no gradebook, and no student logins, so the only student data we can hold is a class list a teacher types or uploads themselves in the Answer Sheet Studio: names, and student IDs if the teacher includes them. Those fields are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, are readable only by the teacher's own account, are never used in analytics or advertising, and are erased from our database when the teacher deletes the class.
What exactly do you store if a teacher saves a class?
The class name and period the teacher typed, the number of students, and one encrypted row per student holding that student's name and, optionally, their student ID. Nothing else: no grades, no scores, no attendance, no contact details, no photos. Teachers who do not save a class can still paste a roster and print a named sheet for every student; in that case nothing about the roster is stored at all.
Do you need a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with our district?
If your teachers save class lists with us, we are processing student names on your behalf and a DPA is a fair thing to ask for. We're glad to complete your district's vendor review forms, and the answers are short. If your teachers only paste rosters without saving them, there is no stored student data to cover.
Does PuzzlePage show ads to students?
Puzzle play and generator pages are not an ad network surface, and we never run behavioral or targeted advertising against student activity. Monetization is teacher- and publisher-facing: an optional Premium tier for watermark-free printing.
How much does a school plan cost, and can we pay by invoice?
School plans start at $499 a year for up to 5 teachers, $999 for up to 15, and $1,999 for up to 50. You ask for a quote, we send a price, and you get a Stripe invoice with 30 days to pay. Nobody has to enter a card, and we can put your purchase order number on the invoice. Once it is paid you get a private link for adding your teachers by email, and you can swap a name on that list whenever staff change.
What does each teacher get on a school plan?
The classroom makers, for the school year: bubble answer sheets, quizzes, matching worksheets, general worksheets and the teacher resource pack. That means class packs with every student's name already printed, student ID bubble grids, A/B/C/D shuffled versions each with its own answer key, editable Word exports, and PDFs with no credit line. Students still never sign in, so the plan changes nothing about the privacy answers on this page.
