What actually belongs on a back-to-school night table
Five things, and they are the same five in every classroom: a sign-in sheet so you know who came, a transportation form because dismissal is where a misunderstanding costs the most, a volunteer sign-up that includes jobs people can do from home at 9pm, a parent survey so you stop guessing about a child six weeks sooner, and a welcome letter with a tear-off strip that gets you a current email address. Everything else on the table is decoration.
“Editable” here means you can actually edit the words
On the marketplaces an editable form usually means a PDF with a few blue boxes, or a file you can only change if you own the right software and the right font. Here every sentence, heading, tick-box and column head in the template is a box on this page. Rewrite the reading level, change the deadline, drop your own line about phones, put {{teacherName}} in the middle of a sentence you wrote yourself — the preview redraws as you type and the PDF is the thing you just read. Why the communication log has a column for attempts
Because the entry you need later is almost never the conversation. It is the three unreturned calls in October, dated, before the February meeting where somebody says nobody told them. A log that only records completed contacts records the half of the story that was never in question.
