What Is Word Hunt?

Word Hunt is the most competitive game in GamePigeon, the game pack built into iMessage. Both players get the same 4×4 grid of letters and 80 seconds to swipe out as many words as possible; whoever banks more points wins, and the score screen gets screenshotted into the group chat either way. Words are built by dragging through adjacent tiles — up, down, sideways, or diagonally — and each tile can be used once per word. Because both players see the identical board, Word Hunt is a pure test of vocabulary and pattern-spotting speed, which is exactly what this solver helps you train.

Word Hunt Scoring, Explained

Unlike Scrabble, Word Hunt ignores which letters you use — only length matters. A 3-letter word pays 100 points, 4 letters pays 400, 5 letters 800, 6 letters 1,400, 7 letters 1,800, and anything 8 letters or longer tops out at 2,200. The jump from 3 to 4 letters is the most important one in the game: a 4-letter word is worth four 3-letter words, so extending TRAP to TRAPS nearly doubles its value again. The results above are sorted with the highest-paying words first so you always know where the real points on your board live.

How to Beat Your Friends at Word Hunt

• Open with one long word. Spend your first 10 seconds scanning for a 5- or 6-letter word instead of banking easy threes. Landing one 1,400-point word early usually decides the match.
• Pluralize everything.If there’s an S on the board, every word you find near it is a second, bigger word. RIDE and RIDES together pay 1,200.
• Re-swipe word families. EAT, TEA, ATE use the same three tiles and pay 300 combined for almost no extra thinking.
• Don’t chase, sweep. In the last 20 seconds, stop hunting long words and grind out every 3-letter word you can see; 100 points a swipe adds up fast.
• Study finished boards here. After a match, enter the board and look at the top two groups. The words you missed follow patterns (-ER, -ING, -IEST) that you will start seeing live.

How This Solver Finds Every Word

The solver loads the public-domain ENABLE word list (the Words With Friends base list, 168,551 entries) into a prefix tree, then walks your board exactly the way your thumb does: starting at each tile, it extends through every unused neighboring tile, and gives up on a path the instant the letters stop being the start of any real word. That early give-up is why it can exhaust all possible swipes in a few milliseconds while a human gets 80 seconds and finds maybe two dozen. The path numbers you see when you tap a word are the actual swipe order, first tile to last.
