Open the makerSee KDP's margin rules, live
The single most common reason KDP rejects a puzzle-book interior is margins that don't grow with page count. Drag the slider across 150 pages and watch the required gutter jump — this preview runs the exact layout math our Book Builder uses, so what you see here is what your manuscript ships with.
KDP's inside-margin minimum grows with page count: 0.375″ to 150 pages, 0.5″ to 300, 0.625″ to 500, 0.75″ to 700, then 0.875″.
The PuzzlePage → KDP workflow
The same four-step pipeline KDP self-publishers we talk to use to ship a puzzle book in a weekend.
1. Pick a niche and trim size
Most KDP puzzle books use 6×9 (compact paperback) or 8.5×11 (large-print senior editions). Pick trim before you generate so margins land cleanly.
2. Generate puzzles in batches
Choose a generator, set your batch size, and download PDFs — or skip the assembly entirely and let the Book Builder produce the whole interior. KDP Publisher plans unlock 100-puzzle batches, 120-puzzle books, and watermark-free export.
3. Design the cover in the same place Beta
The Cover Studio (beta) sizes the full-wrap paperback cover (and a 1600×2560 ebook cover) from the exact page count of the interior you just built, with the spine, bleed, safe areas and barcode zone drawn for you. Start from a starter cover or one of 20 styles, add a free background, your own picture or AI artwork, then drag the title and picture where you want them. The title is typeset, never painted, so it is always spelled right.
4. Upload to KDP Beta
Open Kindle Direct Publishing, create a new paperback, upload your manuscript and cover, and paste in the listing pack (title, subtitle, seven keywords, categories and a description, written for you by AI for 1 credit if you like). KDP asks you to disclose AI-generated images or text at upload, and the Studio reminds you which applies. Then publish.
New in the Book Studio
Design the cover and let AI do the busywork Beta
The Book Studio now finishes the whole book: the interior, the full-wrap cover, the ebook cover and the listing. All of this is in beta, so please tell us what breaks. Every report is read by a person.
Cover Studio Beta
A full-wrap paperback cover PDF at the exact KDP size, with the spine sized from your real page count and the bleed, safe areas and barcode zone kept clear. Plus a 1600×2560 ebook cover JPG and a proof JPG. The live preview is the same file the printer receives.
Drag-to-move editing Beta
Click the title, author, badge, picture or back-cover text on the preview and drag it where you want it. Arrow keys nudge, double-click edits the words, and pictures zoom and pan. The cover check warns if a zoom drops a picture under 300 DPI.
20 styles, 35 free backgrounds, starter covers Beta
Twenty cover styles, from full-bleed photo and large-print classic to sudoku grids, crossword squares, chalkboard and playful kids. Thirty-five royalty-free backgrounds drawn in-house in your own palette, with no licence and no attribution. Every one of the 37 book templates now opens with an almost-finished, editable cover and back-cover copy.
AI credits Beta
Publisher includes 150 credits a month, Pro 400. Text tasks cost 1 credit: plan a whole book from one paragraph, fill a section with themed word lists or quotes, write the back cover, or write the KDP listing. Standard cover artwork is 10 credits; premium 4K artwork or restyling your own photo is 20, and that one is a Pro feature — Publisher gets 2 a month to try it. A failed generation is refunded automatically. Top-ups: 150 credits for $5.99, 500 for $12.99, 1,000 for $24.99. Purchased credits never expire.
The Cover Studio, drag-to-move editing, the free background library, starter covers and the AI features are beta features
They are live for every Publisher and Pro member, and they are still being tested. Please bear with us while we work out the kinks, and please be patient if something misbehaves. If you hit a bug, an odd export or anything that looks wrong, — every report gets read by a person and most get fixed within days.
We’re really excited to be offering these to all of our customers, and we couldn’t deliver them without all of you testing them. Thank you.

Or buy a book outright, one payment
Two ways, depending on how much of the work you want done for you. Both are generated at purchase, so the puzzles inside your copy have never been sold to another publisher, and both carry the commercial print licence.
Ready-to-publish books — the fastest routeFinished interiors for niches that sell: front matter, one puzzle per page, every answer key. Change the title, download, upload.Or start from an interior and make it yours
The same commercial licence, a few dollars less, and a starting point rather than a finished book — 100 word searches, 300 sudoku, a themed niche — generated fresh for your order.
Free puzzle generator for KDP commercial use — what to know
The phrase “free puzzle generator for KDP commercial use” gets searched a lot because most free puzzle makers fall short in one of three ways: they cover the PDF in watermarks, they restrict commercial use, or they don’t support KDP paper sizes. PuzzlePage was built specifically to clear all three bars.
Branding policy
Free downloads keep the puzzle grid completely clean — no watermark stamped across the puzzle. The only branding is a small “Made with PuzzlePage.app” credit line at the bottom of the page. We keep the free tier genuinely usable for KDP work and earn our keep through the KDP Publisher plans — which add the Book Builder and fully watermark-free export — and affiliate partners.
License
You own the output. Sell it on KDP, sell it on Etsy, give it away as a lead magnet, use it on a worksheet subscription site. No attribution required, no per-unit royalty. The same model as a royalty-free stock asset.
KDP-ready PDF format
Every PDF is print-resolution, in one of the four KDP-accepted trim sizes (6×9, 7×10, 8.5×11, A4), with a separate answer-key page so a single download equals one ready-to-bind chapter. Upload it to KDP directly — no reformatting, no margin adjustments, no font-embedding step.
Frequently asked questions about KDP puzzle books
Can I use PuzzlePage’s puzzles in books I publish on Amazon KDP?
Yes. You have full commercial rights to puzzles you generate. They can be sold in Kindle Direct Publishing activity books, sold on Etsy or your own site, included in lead magnets, or used in any commercial product.
Do the free puzzle PDFs have any branding?
Free downloads include a small “Made with PuzzlePage.app” credit line at the bottom of the page. The puzzle grid itself stays clean, with no watermark across it. Watermark-free export is included with the KDP Publisher plans.
Which paper sizes work for KDP puzzle books?
PuzzlePage exports US Letter (8.5×11”), A4 (210×297mm), 6×9” and 7×10” — the four sizes KDP supports for paperback puzzle books. 6×9 is the most common KDP trim; 8.5×11 is preferred for large-print senior editions.
Do I need to credit PuzzlePage in my KDP book?
You own full commercial rights to the puzzles you generate — the license is like a royalty-free stock site. Free PDFs carry a small “Made with PuzzlePage.app” credit line at the bottom of the page; removing that line is included with the KDP Publisher plans.
Can I batch-generate hundreds of puzzles?
The free tier allows up to 5 puzzles per generation, and up to 10 per generation after a one-time email verification. The KDP Publisher plans (from $14.99/mo) unlock the Book Builder: complete interiors up to 120 puzzles, watermark-free, with a full commercial license.
Can PuzzlePage design my KDP cover too? Beta
Yes, in beta. The Book Studio’s Cover Studio produces a full-wrap paperback cover PDF at the exact KDP size, with the spine sized from your real page count and the bleed, safe areas and barcode zone kept clear, plus a 1600×2560 ebook cover JPG. Pick one of 20 cover styles or a starter cover, add a free background, your own picture or AI artwork, then drag the title, badge and picture where you want them. The live preview is the same file the printer receives. It is included with Publisher and Pro.
What are AI credits and what do they cost? Beta
Publisher includes 150 AI credits a month and Pro includes 400. Text tasks cost 1 credit: planning a book from one paragraph, filling a section with themed word lists or quotes, writing the back cover, an artwork prompt or the KDP listing. Standard cover artwork costs 10 credits; premium 4K artwork or restyling your own photo costs 20 and is a Pro feature, with 2 a month on Publisher to try it. A failed generation is refunded automatically. Top-ups are 150 credits for $5.99, 500 for $12.99 and 1,000 for $24.99; purchased credits never expire and the monthly allowance resets on the 1st. AI features are in beta.
Can I sell books that use the free backgrounds or AI artwork on KDP? Beta
Yes. The 35 free backgrounds are drawn in-house by PuzzlePage and are royalty-free for commercial use, including KDP covers, with no attribution. AI-generated artwork and text from the Studio are covered by the same commercial licence. KDP asks publishers to disclose AI-generated images and text on the upload form, and the Studio reminds you which applies to your book.
