1. Introduction

PuzzlePage ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at puzzlepage.app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Service.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you generate more than five puzzles at once, we ask for your email address to unlock bulk downloads and add you to our mailing list. You may also voluntarily provide your name, email, and a message when you contact us through our contact form.

Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our site, we and our third-party partners automatically collect certain information about your device and browsing behavior, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. This information is collected using cookies, pixel tags, and similar tracking technologies.

3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and device identifiers to gather information about how you use our Service and to serve you relevant advertisements. Specifically:

  • First-party cookies — used to maintain session state and remember your preferences. This includes a small cookie that tells our pages a browser belongs to someone on an ad-free plan, so no ad space is shown to them.
  • Google Advertising cookies— Google uses cookies to serve ads to you based on your prior visits to our website and other sites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. These cookies are used for the ads we show through Google AdSense (see section 4) and, where you have agreed, for our own ads on other sites.
  • Analytics cookies — we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our site (pages visited, time on site, traffic sources). Google Analytics may use cookies and device identifiers to measure site usage.
  • First-party product analytics — we keep our own analytics (stored on our servers, not sold or shared) that record how the Service is used: pages viewed, the referring site you arrived from (for example a link from our sister site huemangame.com), puzzles you create and download, and daily games you play. These are tied to a randomly-generated, pseudonymous device/session identifier. If you provide your email (for example to unlock a printable or subscribe), we may associate that activity with your email so we can understand returning usage and improve the Service. We never sell this data. You can ask us to delete it at any time via our contact page, and unsubscribing also removes the association with your email.
  • Daily streak reminders— if you ask for an evening reminder when you haven't played yet, we remember which browser played today's puzzle, and that browser is linked to your email only once you confirm the reminders from your inbox; unsubscribing (or turning the reminders off) removes that link.

4. Ads on PuzzlePage

PuzzlePage is free and supported by ads. Free visitors, signed in or not, see a few ads served by Google AdSense. They sit at natural breaks on the page, are labelled "Advertisement", and never interrupt a game in progress. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers and your IP address to serve these ads, limit how often you see the same one, measure them and prevent fraud.

Personalised and non-personalised ads

Personalised ads are chosen using information about your visits to this and other sites. Non-personalised ads are chosen from context, such as the page you are reading and your general location (city or region), not your browsing history. Google still uses cookies for non-personalised ads to cap how often they show, report on them in aggregate, and stop fraud and abuse. Learn more abouthow Google uses cookies in advertising.

Your consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we show a consent message from Google's consent management tool (a Google-certified consent platform) before any advertising cookies are used. Google's tags start with ad storage turned off until you answer. You choose whether to allow personalised ads; if you decline, you may see non-personalised ads instead. You can change your choice at any time through the privacy and cookie settings link that the consent message leaves on the page.

Pages that never show ads

  • Pages students open from a teacher, such as live classroom games and class-code links, never show ads. A puzzle link a teacher shares shows at most one ad, and that ad is non-personalised.
  • Checkout, account, pricing, legal and contact pages, and puzzles embedded on other websites, never show ads.
  • People on a paid plan see no ads anywhere on the site: the Day Pass, Plus (monthly or annual), Publisher, Pro, the Player Club and the Study Pack. The teacher Classroom plan and school seats unlock the classroom tools but do not remove ads on the public site.

5. Third-Party Sharing

We share data with the following categories of third parties:

  • Google LLC — for advertising (the Google AdSense ads we show free visitors, Google Ads, remarketing, and personalized ads), analytics (Google Analytics), and ad measurement (Enhanced Conversions). Google may use data about your visits to our site to show you ads across the internet.   • Ad measurement partners — when you convert on our site (e.g., download a puzzle after providing your email), we may share transaction data with Google to enable Enhanced Conversions measurement. This data is hashed before transmission and used solely for ad performance measurement.
  • Infrastructure providers — our hosting and database providers process data on our behalf under strict data-processing agreements.

We do not sell your personally identifiable information to third parties.

6. Remarketing

We use Google's remarketing features to advertise to visitors who have previously visited our site. This means that after you visit PuzzlePage, you may see our ads on other websites or in Google Search. Google uses cookies stored on your browser to track these prior visits and serve relevant ads. Your browsing behavior on our site (such as which puzzle types you explored) informs the ad personalization. We do not use sensitive categories of information (such as health, religion, or sexual orientation) for ad targeting.

  • To provide and improve the Service (generate puzzles, enable PDF downloads)
  • To send you product updates and promotional emails (if you subscribed)
  • To analyze site usage and improve user experience via Google Analytics
  • To show ads to free visitors through Google AdSense, which keeps the Service free

  • To measure ad performance through Enhanced Conversions
  • To respond to your inquiries submitted via our contact form
  • To comply with legal obligations

8. Your Opt-Out Rights

You can opt out of Google's use of cookies for personalized advertising at any time:

9. GDPR — European Users

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following applies to you:

Lawful Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases: (a) your consentfor marketing emails and advertising cookies, including personalised ads, collected through Google's consent message; (b) our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service and measuring ad effectiveness; and (c) compliance with legal obligations.

Your Rights

You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to or restrict processing; and data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us via our contact page.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. CCPA and US State Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you specific rights. Residents of other US states with consumer privacy laws (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and Oregon) have similar rights, and the same steps below apply to you:

  • Right to Know — you may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
  • Right to Delete — you may request that we delete personal information we collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale, Sharing and Targeted Advertising— we do not sell your personal information for money. But when free visitors see personalised ads, Google and its partners collect cookie and device data on our pages, and US state laws can treat that as "selling" or "sharing" personal information for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising. You can opt out at any time using the "Do not sell or share my personal information" link shown in our consent message, or by turning off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings. After you opt out, you may still see non-personalised ads. Paid plans other than the teacher Classroom plan and school seats show no ads at all.

11. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately so we can delete it. We do not use any data for advertising targeting directed at children, and we do not collect data from websites or services directed at children. Pages students open from a teacher, such as live classroom games and class-code links, never show ads, and a puzzle link a teacher shares shows at most one non-personalised ad.

12. Teacher Tools and Class Lists

If you save a class in the Answer Sheet Studio, the student names and student IDs on that list are encrypted before they are stored, and only your signed-in account can read them. Deleting a class on your account page erases those names and IDs from our database, and we never put them in analytics, logs, or any email. Students still have no account here and never enter anything themselves, and the classroom pages they open from you never show ads.

13. Data Retention

We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our mailing list. Contact form submissions are retained for up to 24 months to allow us to respond to and track inquiries. You may request deletion at any time.

14. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new policy.
