Scoring a hand of Hearts
After all thirteen tricks, each player counts the hearts they took (1 point each) and adds 13 if they took the queen of spades. Every hand's points add up to 26. Write each player's points and add them to their running total.
Shooting the moon
Take every heart and the queen of spades and you shoot the moon: you score 0 and every other player scores 26. Some groups let the shooter subtract 26 from their own score instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is low or high score better in Hearts?
Low. The game ends when someone reaches 100, and the player with the lowest total wins.
How much is the queen of spades in Hearts?
13 points.
Which way do you pass?
Commonly left, then right, then across, then a hand with no pass, repeating. You can note it in each row.
Printing tips
- Print a stack. Set Pages in PDF to 10 or 20 and keep a pad in the game box.
- Large print for easier reading. Bigger type and taller rows help older players and anyone scoring across the table.
- Landscape for big groups. With six or more players, landscape gives every column more room to write.
