Printable Habit Tracker

A habit tracker grid: one row per habit, one column per day. Set the number of days to match a week, a fortnight or a full month, and the number of habits to whatever you're actually tracking.

Why a grid beats a list

The value of a habit tracker is the visible streak. A grid makes consecutive days into an unbroken run of marks you can see from across the room, and a gap into something conspicuous. That visual feedback is the mechanism — it's much harder to skip a day when skipping leaves an obvious hole in an otherwise solid row.

How many habits to track

Fewer than you'd like. Tracking fifteen habits reliably produces fifteen half-finished rows and a sense of failure. Three to five is where most people actually sustain the practice; the grid here goes higher because some people track lightweight yes/no items like vitamins or water alongside their real targets, but the substantive habits should stay few.

Days per sheet

Thirty-one days gives a full month on one sheet — the classic bullet-journal monthly tracker. Seven days makes the columns much wider, which is better if you want to write a value in each cell (minutes exercised, pages read) rather than just tick it. Fourteen is a good middle ground for a habit you're establishing and reviewing fortnightly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many habits should I track at once?

Three to five is what most people sustain. Tracking a long list tends to produce a lot of incomplete rows, which undermines the motivation the tracker is supposed to provide.

Can I make a weekly habit tracker?

Yes — set the days to 7. The columns become much wider, giving room to write a number in each cell rather than just a tick.

Is the habit tracker dated?

No. Columns are numbered 1 upward rather than tied to specific dates, so a sheet works for any month and any starting day.

Can I fit longer habit names?

Yes — increase the label column width. That narrows the day columns slightly, so there's a trade-off between name length and cell size.

Printing Tips

  • Print at 100% scale.Turn off “fit to page” and “shrink oversized pages” — otherwise your printer rescales the sheet and the measurements no longer match.
  • Match the paper size. Choose the same size here as the paper in your tray. Printing a Letter PDF on A4 (or the reverse) scales it.
  • Lighter lines print better. A light grey or blue guides your work without competing with it — and it uses far less ink.
  • Use heavier paper for wet media. 100gsm and up for fountain pens and markers; standard copier paper is fine for pencil.
