How do you play TriPeaks Solitaire?
TriPeaks lays 28 cards out as three overlapping peaks. Play any uncovered face-up card onto the waste if it is one rank higher or lower than the waste card, in any suit. Kings and Aces wrap, so a King can follow an Ace. Cards turn face up when both cards covering them are gone. Draw from the stock when stuck. Clear all three peaks to win.
TriPeaks Solitaire rules
- 28 cards in three peaks: rows of 3, 6, 9 and 10. Only the bottom row starts face up.
- A card is playable when no other card overlaps it.
- Play a card if it is one rank above or below the waste card. Ace and King are adjacent.
- Draw from the 23-card stock one at a time when you have no play.
- Long runs score more points; clearing all three peaks wins.
Tips and strategy
- Prefer the play that uncovers a face-down card, so you see more options.
- When you have a choice of runs, pick the longer one before drawing.
- Keep an eye on the peak tops: clearing a whole peak early frees the board.
A short history of TriPeaks Solitaire
TriPeaks was invented by Robert Hogue in 1989 and spread through computer solitaire collections in the 1990s. It is a close cousin of Golf, with wrapping ranks and a pyramid layout.
TriPeaks Solitaire questions
Do Kings and Aces wrap in TriPeaks?
Yes. In TriPeaks an Ace can be played on a King and a King on an Ace, which keeps runs going. That is the main difference from Golf Solitaire.
What is the difference between TriPeaks and Golf Solitaire?
Both build one rank up or down on a single waste pile. TriPeaks uses three overlapping peaks with face-down cards and lets Ace and King connect; Golf uses seven open columns and does not wrap.
