How do you play Yukon Solitaire?
Yukon deals all 52 cards into seven columns with many cards face up and no stock. Build down in alternating colors, like a red 9 on a black 10. Unlike Klondike, you can move any face-up card together with every card on top of it, even if those cards are not in order. Only Kings go into empty columns. Move all cards to the four foundations, Ace to King by suit, to win.
Yukon Solitaire rules
- 52 cards in seven columns; column one has a single card, the rest have hidden cards under five face-up cards.
- Build down in alternating colors.
- Any face-up card may be moved with all the cards on top of it.
- Only a King, with its pile, can be moved into an empty column.
- Foundations build up by suit from Ace to King.
Tips and strategy
- Work on the columns with the most face-down cards first.
- Because whole piles move, you can dig out a buried Ace by moving the cards above it as one block.
- Do not empty a column unless a King is ready to take it.
A short history of Yukon Solitaire
Yukon is a close relative of Klondike, named after the Yukon territory of the Klondike gold rush. With no stock to draw from, nearly everything is visible from the start, so it rewards planning over luck.
Yukon Solitaire questions
What is the difference between Yukon and Klondike Solitaire?
Yukon has no stock pile: every card is dealt at the start. And in Yukon you can move a face-up card together with any cards on top of it, even if they are not in sequence, which Klondike does not allow.
Is Yukon Solitaire winnable?
Most deals are winnable with careful play, more than Klondike, because almost every card is visible from the first move.
