How do you play Pyramid Solitaire?
Pyramid Solitaire deals 28 cards in a seven-row pyramid. Remove two uncovered cards whose values add up to 13: Ace is 1, Jack 11, Queen 12, and a King (13) is removed alone. You can pair a pyramid card with the top of the stock or waste pile. Clear the whole pyramid to win. PuzzlePage allows three passes through the stock.
Pyramid Solitaire rules
- 28 cards in seven overlapping rows; a card is uncovered when both cards below it are gone.
- Remove pairs totalling 13. Kings are removed on their own.
- The stock top and waste top can be used in pairs.
- Three passes through the stock.
Tips and strategy
- Work on the pairs that uncover the most cards, usually near the middle of the bottom row.
- Do not rush to pair two stock cards if the same value is trapped in the pyramid and needs a partner later.
- Count what is left: if all four 6s are gone, the 7s can only go with each other's partners, never 6s.
A short history of Pyramid Solitaire
Pyramid is a traditional patience game built on simple arithmetic. Pairing to a target total makes it a favourite for practising addition facts as well as for passing a coffee break.
Pyramid Solitaire questions

Rules vary. PuzzlePage gives you three passes through the stock, a common middle ground between the strict one-pass game and unlimited redeals.
