2. Note your trim size, paper type, and whether the interior is black ink or color.

What Makes a Puzzle Book Cover Convert?

A cover converts when a shopper can answer three questions in under a second: what kind of puzzles, for whom, and how many.

Lock the layout and vary only one element. Same title placement, same type sizes, same visual weight, with a swapped seasonal color and motif.

Series that mix formats can alternate grid sections with a word scramble section, as long as both use the same page geometry.

A Q4 Timeline That Leaves Room for a Proof

The step most rushed Q4 launches skip is the printed proof. Ordering one adds shipping days but catches problems a screen never shows.

1. Early September: finish interiors and lock page counts.
2. Mid September: run the cover calculator and build the cover file.
3. Late September: upload and order a printed proof copy.
4. Early October: correct anything the proof reveals and republish.
5. Mid October: title is live with weeks to spare before holiday shopping.

A proof catches three things reliably: a spine that sits off-center, cover colors that print darker than they looked, and interior grids that crowd the gutter.

None of those are visible in a preview. Holding the physical book is the only check that catches all three at once.

If the calendar is already tight, upload anyway and order the proof in parallel. A live listing accumulating search history beats a perfect file sitting unpublished.

Try It Yourself: Test One Cover Concept

Draft one cover before designing a whole series. Put the puzzle type, the audience marker, and the count on it, and nothing else.

Shrink it to thumbnail size and set it next to three competing titles in the same category. If yours is the hardest to read, simplify rather than decorate.
