Quick answer
An AI word search generator writes the word list for you from a plain sentence. Type what the puzzle is about and who it is for, and PuzzlePage returns a title and a themed word list sized for a grid that can actually hold it. One credit per puzzle, and you edit every word before printing.
The slowest part of making a word search has never been the grid. It is sitting with a blank box, trying to think of twenty words about the ocean that are not all seven letters long.
That is the part the new AI word search generator takes over. It is live in beta on the free PuzzlePage word search maker for anyone on a paid plan, including the $2.99 day pass.
📌 Key Takeaways
- Describe the puzzle in one sentence. The AI writes the title and the word list.
- One credit per puzzle. The $2.99 day pass includes 10 credits, so that is 10 finished worksheets.
- Nothing changes in your puzzle until you press Use this, and every word stays editable after that.
- If the AI fails or returns something we will not print, the credit is refunded automatically.
How does the AI word search generator work?
You type a sentence and press one button. The panel sits at the top of the controls rail on the word search maker, above the box you would normally type your own words into.
Here is the whole flow with a real prompt in it:
- Type what you want, the way you would say it out loud. "A word search about classic cars for a car-show goodie bag" is a complete prompt.
- Press Generate. It costs 1 credit and takes a few seconds.
- Read the draft. You get a title, a one-line note explaining the choices, and the full word list.
- Press Use this to pour it into the maker, or Discard and try a different sentence.

What if you do not know how to write a prompt?
Then let it write the prompt for you. Type a few words, press Write my prompt, and for 1 credit you get back the prompt you should have written, sitting in the box ready to edit.
It also shows two or three short notes on what it added and why. That is deliberate: after two or three goes, most people stop needing it.
We tested this on the vaguest input we could think of. Typing the single word "cars" came back as a request naming the audience, the difficulty and a word count, which is the difference between a puzzle with 8 usable words and one with 15.
Pro Tip
Name the audience in your prompt. "For a 2nd grade science center" and "for a memory care activity hour" pull genuinely different vocabulary out of the same topic.
Does the word list actually fit the grid?
Yes, and that took more work than the writing did. The word search engine silently drops any word longer than the grid it is placing into, so a 14 letter answer in a 10x10 grid vanishes with no warning at all.
So every word that comes back is re-checked before you see it. Anything outside 3 to 12 letters is dropped, duplicates are removed, and the grid size is chosen from what survived.
If too few words are left to be the puzzle you asked for, the whole result is refused and your credit is returned. A short word list is worse than an error message, because you only find out at the printer.
A second pass then reads the finished list for appropriateness before you see it. That one is a judgement about meaning rather than a list of banned words, because a word list can be entirely free of profanity and still be no use to a classroom.
What does it cost?
AI writing is on the paid plans only. Because both AI actions cost exactly 1 credit, the number of credits a plan gives you is the number of worksheets you can ask for.
| Plan | Price | AI credits | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | None | Every maker, by hand, forever |
| Day pass | $2.99 once | 10 | Trying it on one project |
| Plus | $6.99/mo | 15/mo | A puzzle or two a week |
| Classroom | $19/yr | 15/mo | Teachers, all year |
| Publisher | $14.99/mo | 150/mo | KDP books, plus cover art |
Credit packs start at $5.99 if you run out early, and purchased credits never expire. A monthly allowance refreshes on the first and does not roll over.
Heads up
This is a beta. AI writes convincing wrong answers, so read what it gives you before you print thirty copies. If it gets something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
Which other makers have it?
Seven, in this first beta. The word search, the cryptogram maker, the word scramble maker, the word fill-in maker, sudoku, the crossword maker and the flash card maker.
Each one asks the model for what it can actually use. The cryptogram asks for quotes, the crossword asks for answers with clues, and sudoku has no words at all, so it only sets the grid, the difficulty and the batch size.
Pro Tip
Selling what you make? The commercial-use licence comes with the Publisher and Pro plans, and Amazon asks you to declare AI-assisted content on upload. The KDP content guidelines spell out what counts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the AI word search generator free?
No, though the word search maker itself is free forever and always will be. AI writing starts at the $2.99 day pass, which includes 10 AI credits and needs no account. Plus at $6.99 a month refreshes 15 credits every month.
How many words does the AI put in a word search?
It matches the grid you have selected, usually 12 to 20 words for the standard 13x13 size. Every word is checked to be between 3 and 12 letters so nothing is silently dropped when the grid is built.
Can I edit the words the AI writes?
Yes, all of them. The word list lands in the maker's ordinary text box, so you can delete a word, add five of your own, or rewrite the title before you print or export the PDF.
What happens if the AI gets it wrong?
If the result is unusable, too short, or contains anything we will not print on a worksheet, the whole result is refused and your credit is returned automatically. If it is merely a bad list, press Discard and try again with a clearer sentence.
