How the daily Strands-style game works

Every letter on the board is part of exactly one answer, and all the answers share a hidden theme revealed by the day's clue. Trace an answer by dragging across connected letters — across, down, or diagonally — or by tapping tiles one at a time and tapping the last tile to submit.

  • 1Theme words turn blue when you find them.
  • 2The spangram spans two opposite sides and turns yellow.
  • 3Every tile is used once — find all the answers to complete the board.

A fresh board arrives every day at 00:00 UTC, the same for every player worldwide.

Strategy tips

  1. Start from the clue. Brainstorm words that fit the theme, then hunt for their letters on the board.
  2. Look for the spangram early. It touches two opposite sides, so scan the edges for a long theme word.
  3. Trace in any direction. Words wind diagonally and can double back — follow unusual paths.
  4. Use a hint to break a logjam. Revealing one starting tile often unlocks the rest of the board.

Frequently asked questions

What is the daily Strands-style game?
A free daily word-search-with-a-theme. Every letter on the board belongs to exactly one answer. All the answers share a hidden theme, given away by the day's clue, and one special answer — the spangram — stretches from one side of the board to the opposite side and sums up the theme.
How do I trace a word?
Drag your finger (or mouse) across connected letters, or tap them one at a time and tap the last letter again to submit. Letters connect in any direction — across, down, and diagonally — and each word winds through its own set of tiles.
What is the spangram?
The spangram is the answer that best captures the theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It's highlighted in yellow when you find it; the other theme answers turn blue.
What are hints for?
Stuck? The Hint button reveals the starting tile of one unfound theme word. Use as many as you like — your hint count is shown in your result so you can challenge friends to solve it with fewer.
How often does the puzzle change?
Every day at 00:00 UTC. The board and theme for a calendar date are the same for every player worldwide, so you can compare results.
