How the daily Spelling Bee works

Each day you get seven letters in a honeycomb, with one letter in the center. Your goal is to spell as many words as possible under three simple rules:

  • 1Words must be at least four letters long.
  • 2Every word must include the center letter.
  • 3Use only the seven letters shown — but you can reuse them as often as you like.

Four-letter words score 1 point; longer words score one point per letter. A pangram, a word that uses all seven letters, earns a 7-point bonus. Reach 70% of the available points to hit the top rank, Genius. A fresh puzzle arrives every day at 00:00 UTC, the same for every player worldwide.

Strategy tips to reach Genius faster

  1. Start with the center letter. Since every answer needs it, pair it with each other letter to find openings.
  2. Try common suffixes. Endings like -ING, -IER, -ILY, -ATE, and -ENT unlock several words at once when the letters are present.
  3. Look for the pangram early. Using all seven letters gives the biggest single jump — scan for a word that touches every letter.
  4. Reuse letters. Doubled letters (as in LEVEL or MAMMA) are legal and easy to miss.
  5. Shuffle the hive. Rearranging the outer letters helps your eye spot combinations you glossed over.

Frequently asked questions

What is the daily Spelling Bee?
A free daily word game where you make as many words as you can from seven letters arranged in a honeycomb. Every word must be at least four letters long and must include the center letter. Letters may be reused within a word. Find enough words and you reach the top rank, Genius.
What are the rules?
Words must be 4 letters or longer, must contain the center letter, and may only use the seven letters shown (letters can repeat). Four-letter words are worth 1 point; longer words score one point per letter. A pangram — a word that uses all seven letters — earns a 7-point bonus.
What is a pangram?
A pangram is a word that uses every one of the seven letters at least once. Each puzzle has at least one. Finding a pangram gives a big point bonus and often jumps you up a rank.
How do you reach Genius?
Ranks go from Beginner up through Good, Nice, Great, Amazing, and finally Genius at 70% of the total points available. You do not need to find every word to reach Genius — just enough of them.
Are proper nouns or offensive words allowed?
No. Every answer is a common English word. The puzzle never uses names, places, hyphenated words, or offensive words, and the letter set never includes S so you can't pad your score with easy plurals.
Does my streak save?
Yes — reaching Genius records a completion, and your Genius streak and stats are saved on your device via local storage. No account needed.
