- From 1777 to 1791, Vermont was its own independent republic, with its own constitution and its own copper coins.
- Vermont's 1777 constitution was the first written constitution in North America to ban slavery for adults.
- About 643,000 people lived in Vermont at the 2020 Census, and Burlington is the largest city.
- Montpelier, with about 8,000 people, has fewer people than any other state capital in the country.
- Vermont makes about half of all the maple syrup in the United States, more than any other state.
- Mount Mansfield, at about 4,400 feet, is the highest point in Vermont.
- The name Vermont comes from French words for "green mountain," after the Green Mountains that run down the middle of the state.
